Public Looks at Synthetic Biology -- Cautiously

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/09/100909003704.htm

Scientists have discovered synthetic biology could improve everything from medicine to energy production. By 2015, the global market is projected to rise to $4.5 billion; however, the public is concerned where will biology will lead to in the future. A poll conducted by Hart Research Associates and the Synthetic Biology Project at the Woodrow Wilson Center found that 2/3 of 1000 people approved of synthetic biology. Also, over half of Americans believe the federal government to be proactive in this project. Additional polls taken resulted in people having a negative downturn towards this and use of synthetic biology being used to cure illnesses.

In my opinion, I believe the government should be involved in all branches of biology. From what I heard in the media, President Obama will resume stem-cell research among scientists. With synthetic biology, we could have new vaccines, better organ replacements, and other malfunctions of the body. Life is short, so discovering a new cure would make a person live longer. People say scientists waste time doing things like this, but life longevity has increased over the century.
